Alex Zanardi. Cristiano da Matta. Phil Krueger. They owe their lives to the men and women of what was variously known as the Horton/CART/Champ Car/Holmatro Safety Team.

Every word in the article is true. It has been several years since I told the Safety Team of my appreciation of their work. I wish I had told them one last time at the CHAMP CAR Long Beach GP.

NO,They are not. I talked to Bromley & Hollander @ L.B. and they said that the I.R.L. as no room for any of them @ this time.

The Safety Team epitomizes the term "professional". Loss of that expertise would be another sad aspect of the "merger" of Champ Car and IRL. The team owners were the mannagers, the drivers were the stars, but the Safety Team are the heroes.

I've thought ever since the amazing work done to save Danny Ongais' legs many years ago that Drs. Terry Trammel. Steve Olveh and their cohorts with Champ Car are the real heroes of racing. The world of medicine in general has even gained.
