Now that getting 33 cars in the field is no longer a challenge, the current 11-11-11 format should be dropped, SPEED’s Robin Miller says…

As usual RM is spot on. Since the weather in Indy usually plays a role during qualifying days don't restrict the number of qualifiers on any of the days. From my experience there has always been more drama when a first day qualifier accepts a marginal speed and has to sweat it out on the last weekend.

Is anyone else out there trying to bring back the glory days of Indy as hard as Miller? I didn't think so.

It just needs tweaked. I like the idea of someone being able to go out three times per day, so they could keep that option and just drop the top 11 thing. This would let them pull out of the grid and to re-qualify if they wanted to any day of time trials.

Right on the money Robin. I went to pole day for the first time in years and it was indeed a farce. I won't go back until they change the format.

Qualifying usedto be better than the race. Now it's a puy up job for ratings. Too bad because Indy is the only thing the IRL has going for it

Drop the 11 qualifying spots per day. We all know Indy weather in May almost always has rain. I could probably be talked into letting teams use the same car to requalify if thay wanted to move up on the grid or were bumped out of the field.
